How QPI Is Calculated

Your Quality Point Index (QPI) is calculated using a credit-weighted average formula. Each letter grade you earn corresponds to a numerical grade point (for example, A = 4.0, B+ = 3.5). That grade point is multiplied by the number of units assigned to the course to determine your Quality Points.

Course Quality Points = Grade Point × Course Units
Quality Point Index (QPI) = Total Quality Points ÷ Total Counted Units

An A grade contributes 4.0 × 3 = 12.0 Quality Points.

1-Unit Lab / PE Course

An A grade contributes 4.0 × 1 = 4.0 Quality Points.

Consequently, earning a high grade in a 3-unit, 4-unit, or 5-unit course will elevate your QPI three to five times more than the exact same grade in a 1-unit physical education or laboratory course.
